Problems in the church stem from two sources. The first is found on our own doorstep. James wrote, “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it because there is a whole army of evil desires within you?” James 4:1 TLB Pride and selfishness have a way of creating trouble where none exists. When something happens that leaves us feeling disgruntled, we need to do a self-examination.
But it goes deeper. Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” NIV
Satan hates Christians and is on the lookout for ways to undermine our faith, drawing us away from God and each other. He will foster conflict in the body, fanning the flames and unleashing destruction. We must approach church problems with this in mind, aware that the enemy will manipulate our feelings in his goal to crush us.
